ECO DAY
Included in Eco Art a project in installments over several exhibition occasions 2006-07
Eco Day - a corporate-friendly get-together with a touch of the green movement from the seventies, which relates ideas on recycling, life-style and "good" ideologies from a marketing perspective. This happening presents poetry, toilet paper, apples, music and much more.
Eco as in echo, as in ecological, economical. A day, a couple of hours, a temporary zone of re-versal, re-cuperation, rotation. Re-shuffling the waste. In one sense waste and poetry are the far outposts of non-commodifiable spaces. Sense as in sane, as in sanitation and sanitary efforts. Beware of the green movement, re-fashioned into life-style, i-recycle, focusing on I (lower-case), every individual the same little i as anybody else. Of course the handling of garbage is now a global concern, big business driving radioactive debris from port to port in the third world. On the plane of signifying - seminating - this constant moving on, collapsing chains of signification, the thrill of non-sense and the spell of images, mirror mirror on the wall, who is the dirtiest of them all... the re-cycling of meaning through our thoroughly excavated consumer minds... pretty intoxicated minds by now, I wouldn't say pointless, rather senseless, but it definitely makes sense to be moving on now.
